Thompson Cup - 14U
Submitted By Mark Gibson on Tuesday, February 20, 2018
Our 14U Boys and Girls braved snowstorms and freezing rain to take their talents to the Thompson Cup Tournament at McMaster Pool in Hamilton.  For this first tournament of the new calendar year, our teams wanted to find their form for the second half of their seasons.

The boys’ improving teamwork helped them play well in their first two matches against HAWPC and Mavericks White, putting them in good position against an old rival, Shadow, for the final game of division play.  However, a loss against Shadow sent the boys into the bronze medal game against another old rival, Mavericks Red, who defeated them in that match-up, sending the boys home on the icy highway without a medal, but with a renewed determination to meet these rivals again soon.

The girls’ division lacked numbers, so they played the same teams multiple times.  Victories against HAWPC were sandwiched between losses to their foes from Etobicoke, the Mavericks, including a defeat in the gold medal game.  Every game the girls played required persistent effort as a team, with the last game also demanding that, in their individual match-ups, each girl had to be resolute as well.  As the silver medals were placed over their heads, the girls’ smiles showed that their love of the game remains and the desire to get back into the water is strong.

With the Thompson Cup now behind them, many of the boys and girls will join forces to form a co-ed team for the Titans Cup in Ottawa.
