Two tired, road-weary squads have just returned home from a trip to the
nation’s capital. Inferno Gold and Inferno Black spent this past weekend
competing in the Titans Cup at the Nepean Sportsplex.
Play got underway early for both of the co-ed teams on Saturday. Inferno Gold had three tough matches against Gatineau, Titans Gold, and Titans Red. The squad came through the round-robin portion with a spotless 3-0 record. Inferno Black were in tough against Hamilton, Titans White, and Titans Black. The team dropped all three of their games, but players gained some valuable playing time, and some key experience.
On Sunday, Inferno Black were in the water for the first match of the day against Titan’s Gold. This was their toughest competition so far, and the younger squad held their own in a loss. Inferno Gold had to battle hard against a feisty Titans Black team, but came out on top, guaranteeing themselves a trip to the gold medal match.
Inferno Black’s final game of the day was against the hometown Titans Red, and both teams put on a great show for the crowd. The score was tied at the end of regulation, which meant that the game would be decided in a shootout. And what a shootout it was! Inferno Black lost by just one goal, but every player on the team should be proud of his or her efforts. It was a great experience for all, and Coach Glen can’t wait to bring you back up next year.
The gold medal match pitted Inferno Gold against Gatineau. It was a very close affair, tied 1-1 after the first quarter, 2-2 after the second, and 4-4 after the third. A total of three goals were scored in fourth, with Inferno Gold grabbing two of them, to hang on for a hard-fought 6-5 victory!
