When life gives you a rainy day, Play Water Polo!
KW Water Polo successfully hosted it's first U12 'Outdoor' Game day this past Sunday, June 14th at Harry Class Pool in Kitchener!
Despite the dreary rainy day with concerns of a possible thunderstorms in the afternoon the event went forward without any delays. We had a fabulous turnout of kids who's smiles brightened the overcast day. We hosted teams from Mavericks, Hamilton and Shadow along with two KW teams. Each team played 4 games with some very close matches and put on an exciting show for the parents who were all troopers as they cheered on the teams standing under a colourful display of umbrella's and rain jackets.
In addition, we held a fundraising BBQ during the event and despite the less than desirable conditions we successfully raised $525 for the club! Thank you to John Bilicic of Remax who generously donated the majority of the items for sale at the BBQ and thank you to the Devitt's for lending us their BBQ and tents to keep us and the score clock keepers relatively dry. A special thank you to those who helped out on BBQ duty (the warmest spot of the day and an opportunity to dry out) and those who helped score-keep. Thank you to Coach Glen for all his efforts in planning, setting up and coaching our teams in this event - you never stopped smiling! Thank you to Adrian for assisting Glen on deck and a final big thank you to Brodie and Kennedy who referred the entire day in the pouring rain without a break - we appreciate your help and willingness to give back to this younger group of teams!
We received a great deal of positive feedback from the visiting clubs so we look forward to hosting more such events in the future!
