The Inferno experienced a fun and competitive
weekend of water polo at the Capital Wave Festival in Ottawa.
We had teams competing in the U14 Boys, U14 Girls, U12 Coed and U10 coed divisions. This was very exciting as it was the first time (or it has been a very long time) that we have had U10 and U12 teams competing in the capital region.
To quote Coach Glen our U10s are "WORLD CHAMPIONS" after their amazing play on the weekend! It was fantastic to see them using their skills that have developed from Fun Fit Water Polo and for some their club practices. It was hard to call whether there were more smiles in the water or in the stands.
The U12 team was impressive this weekend with a 2W-1T-1L record finishing in the Silver medal position. It was awesome to see the development in these players since their entry to the club. This young group are demonstrating skills and an understanding of the game that is exceptional at the U12 level.
The U14 Boys are bringing home bronze medals from the Festival. They just missed the opportunity to play in Gold medal match by losing one of their preliminary games by a one goal margin. There were many highlights over the tourney which earned them a 2W-2L-0T record.
The U14 Girls earned Gold medal accolades with some outstanding play for the tournament. They finished the weekend with a 3W-1L-0T record showing some great grit to defeat the Capital Wave team they lost to earlier in the weekend.
All players enjoyed a unique experience this weekend watching the Canadian Women's Senior National Team practice and scrimmage. Afterward our players joined the Ladies in the water for a skills training secession followed by a meet and greet where photo opportunities and autographs were graciously offered to all.
Congratulations to all our teams for a first class effort! You made us all very proud. All the teams deserve a quick breather as they prepare themselves for the Paul Taylor Memorial Tournament next weekend in Etobicoke. Inferno will be out full force for the PTMT with 6 teams in 4 divisions.
Thank you to all the parents for making the trip to Ottawa and supporting our teams. And a special thank you Coach Glen and his assistant Coaches Ryan and Aleah for leading our teams at this successful event.
