The 12U KW Black team competed at the Future Hopes Tournament hosted by Shadow Water Polo Club at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre. The team battled hard through a challenging start, dropping their first two games before bouncing back with a strong win in their third game to put themselves in the running for 9th–10th place.

On Sunday, the team returned to the pool determined to finish strong. They delivered an impressive performance, building an outstanding lead over their opponents and securing a decisive victory to finish the tournament in 9th place. The weekend was a great display of resilience, teamwork, and growth for the KW Black!

Game 1

  • Q1: Serious parking struggles aside at the Pqn-Am Centre we saw some great defence by Kraken Green in the first quarter to keep the Vaughan BlueHawks to 4.

  • Q2: Lots of great possession and shots by the Kraken Green team started off the second quarter. The BlueHawks pushed and ended the half at 9:0.

  • Q3: A solid quarter only letting in one goal! This was coupled with solid moves and shots on the Vaughan goal.

  • Q4: Lots of great back and forth and interplay saw a fun last quarter for the team. Miso came in with a wicked arm on a two on zero breakaway, and scored a great goal for Kraken Green. The game ended at 11:1.

Game 2

  • Q1: Our Green Kraken had the first shots on goal and showed some more aggression by scoring the first goal. The Wave tied it up quickly as this had rocked their boat. And suddenly the game was at 2:2 with 2 minutes left and then 4:4 at the end of the quarter. What a battle!!!

  • Q2: You could hear the anticipation dripping in the water after that first quarter. Lips quivered, arms flailed; it was a dramatic match up. The Capital Wave rose up and scored 4 quick goals in the quarter, but fear not as this did not dishearten our Kraken, who fought valiantly every second.

  • Q3: The Kraken were slippery, deking around the Wave and getting many chances to score. However the Wave rolled over and scored another 5.

  • Q4: Our little sea monsters pushed out with all their might in the last quarter. Their tentacles reaching right around the Wave and scoring one more. Ultimately this time the sea won out with a final score of 15:5.

Game 3

  • Q1: Evan lead off with a great first goal just 30 seconds into the game. You could see the fire in their eyes! The quarter ended with 4 goals for the Wave2 and the Kraken at 1.

  • Q2: We started off strong with the first goal of the quarter. And had some incredible defence and goal keeping, the tentacles were everywhere. We end the first half with 3 and the Wave2 at 5.

  • Q3: Another high energy quarter for our squad. Keeping the Wave2 at 6 our Kraken fought hard with lots of charges on net and remain at 3.

  • Q4: A solid stalemate for the first 3 minutes with the Wave2 sneaking in a goal with 2 minutes left. This started a barrage of a couple goals so the Kraken Green finished with 3 and the Capital Wave2, 8.

Game 4

  • Q1: Crash, you could hear the ball careen off the goal with how many shots our Kraken made right off the bat. The quarter ended at a solid 2:1 for the Mavericks.

  • Q2: We tied it up right at the start of the quarter—go team!  The Mavericks were mad and fired back with a quick goal. Our Kraken kept pushing with some awesome plays and turnovers and tied it up again!  Again the Maverick attacked and scored a tit-for-tat back. 4:3 Mavericks.

  • Q3: Our team was hungry! Getting up before 6 am for a game in Scarborough does that to you. They played well and kept the Mavericks to 4 goals.

  • Q4: With a ball to the face, one of the great Kraken had a bloody nose, but the team kept fighting to the last breath. The Mavericks pulled out all the stops and had a win over the Kraken 10:3.

Great job for the whole team for this 3-day tournament.  1-2-3 Go Kraken!
