This past weekend saw the 12U
KW Kraken travel to Etobicoke to compete in
March Madness.
They were seeded in a very tough division facing opponents from across the province.
was there to capture the highlights of the
KW vs. Hamilton game.
In their first game on Friday, the
Kraken squared off against the Shadow Lions from
Scarborough. The
Kraken played fiercely, but narrowly were defeated by a score of 10-8.
Saturday’s first adversary was the
Kraken's Golden Horseshoe neighbour, Hamilton. This game
was back and forth through each of the four quarters until the last buzzer. When it ended in a
draw. Final score 9-9.
The
Kraken had no time to dwell on the tie as their next rival from Etobicoke awaited. This time
it was Mavericks Black. A very powerful team that unfortunately when the game finished, came
out ahead 14-2.
But Sunday was a new day! Showing great resiliency, the
Kraken were right back in the water
facing off against Mavericks Red this time. And HOW the tide had turned! The
Krafty Kraken
had learned from their previous defeat and out swam, out blocked, and out scored the
Mavericks. Final score 15-2
KW!
Throughout the weekend the 12U
Kraken showed a propensity to learn on the job. Sometimes
picking up tips from opponents, sometimes from teammates. However, they struggled with
recent FINA rule changes, and some incredibly key injuries.
In their final March Madness match, which in fact turned out to be a rematch against the
Hamiltonians, they lost a nail biter 7-5 to their rivals. The 12U
Kraken left it all in the pool, their
tanks were empty, they could give no more.
A
Kraken sized thank you to Coaches Adrian D, and Dora G for all the support, leadership, and
guidance this weekend. Hats off to our 12U
Kraken parents for travelling to support the team.
Your boisterous cheering was so loud it could even be heard underwater. And finally, a hearty
HIP HIP HOORAY for the players!! See you at the pool...
Provincials are NEXT!!!
