KW Inferno Leaves the Etobicoke Olympium in Flames after the Mavericks March Madness Tournament (MMMT)
Submitted By Calin Dragoiescu on Sun 03 29, 15
This past weekend we had teams competing in each of the 3 divisions at the MMMT.  Our U16/18 Men’s Team, U14 Boys team and U14 Girls team all did KW Water Polo proud with their unrelenting effort and impressive victories over the 3 day event.

Our High School Men’s Team held the best record on the weekend going 5W-0L-0T and finishing first place in their division.  AWESOME!  Their first game of the tourney was a real nail biter vs Hamilton.  Tied after regulation they went into a shootout for a decision.  Inferno came out on top after a series of 12 penalty shots.  The second game versus DDO 2 was a 10-7 victory.  Their third game was another tight match versus Winnipeg resulting in an 8-7 win.  Our team confidently won their final two games today 15-8 versus the Mavericks and 17-4 vs DDO 1.  Outstanding Tournament Guys!

Our U14 Boys finished 2nd at the event with a 4W-2L-0T record.  The Boys finished in a 3 way tie after the round robin beating the Titans 12-6 and DDO 9-4 and dropping games to Mavericks Black 4-10 and Mavericks Red 10-12.  They advanced into the playoff round in second place with the best goal differential result.  In the first game of the playoff round our boys were trading blows with Mavericks Red leaving them tied 8-8 at the half.  Early in the third quarter two of our players from the starting lineup were expelled from the game with 3 ejections each.   Mavericks Red gained moment from this turning point pulling out a 12-16 win despite the extraordinary effort from our boys for the remainder of the game.  Our team came back with a vengeance in their final game with a convincing win versus Mavericks Black 11-7.  The team was firing on all cylinders from the start of the game until the final buzzer.  Way to go boys!

Our U14 Girls proved that they were a team to reckon with at the MMMT.  The Girls also finished in 2nd position on the weekend with a 3W-2L-0T record.  The Girls started the weekend on fire taking down DDO 10-5, Mavericks 7-2 and Guelph 12-3.  Their rematch versus DDO was extremely exciting  ending in a 9-9 tie after regulation.  Unfortunately, the girls were not victorious in the shootout.  Those darn posts and cross bars are always getting in the way :)  The Girls dropped their final match 5-8 versus the Mavericks.  Our Girls were underdogs entering the event yet walked away with a tremendous amount of respect from the parents, coaches and most importantly their opponents after a great weekend of water polo!

Our coaches showed amazing competency, composure and leadership throughout the event.  Coach Max and Coach Ricardo led the U16/18 Men to their first place finish in true Inferno tradition.   Coach Glen with the assistance of Coach Stevie and Coach Aleah guided our U14 teams through tough divisions with tenacity and sportsmanship.  We are very fortunate to have these individuals mentoring our players!!
