14U Eastern National Championships
Submitted By Calin Dragoiescu on Monday, May 15, 2017
Our 14U girls team competed in the ‎14U Eastern National Championships this past weekend in Gatineau, PQ.

The girls battled hard through their round robin ‎play against a field of skilled teams. They dropped their opening game to a strong DDO squad 5-8. Later Friday evening they gained provincial redemption in their second game convincingly  defeating the Mavericks 8-5.  The girls came out on Saturday on all cylinders with solid victories over Capital Wave 8-1 and then Montreal Machine 4-2 earning them a position in the gold medal game versus DDO.
In this rematch the girls brought their A game. The girls controlled the majority of the game taking a lead into the 4th quarter. Despite all our girls efforts DDO managed a late goal to secure a 8-9 win resulting in silver medal accolades for our exceptional team.
This tournament concludes an unbelievable season where this team finished with gold or silver in every event the competed in! VERY IMPRESSIVE LADIES!!!!!
Sincere congratulations to each and every player as well as Coach Glen and Coach Aleah who have developed this team on every level (Tanya and Mike Ciciretto).

The teams were evenly matched with a 2-2 tie recorded on the board within the first 2 minutes of play. The goals were long bombs from Hannah and Cleo shooting from WAY out. Still in the first, Trinity puts one into the corner of the net. DDO charges back to tie it up again but with one second left on the clock at the end of the first Cleo scores to make it 4-3 KW. This gives us the boost we need and early in the second Olivia gets us another goal and now we are leading by two points, 5-3. DDO keeps pushing back but Olivia and Trinity get another couple of fantastic goals to keep the point differential at 2. At the end of second the score is 7-5 for KW. Early in the third Dasha scores a beautiful shot into the far corner to give us a three point lead and that quarter is pretty much a stale-mate with DDO only gaining back a single point. By the end of the 3rd we were ahead 8-6.

DDO fought back part way through the the 4th to make it 8-7. With a little more than 2 minutes on the clock, DDO is handed a 5m penalty shot to tie it up and then another at around the minute mark. Maintaining control of the ball they then ran down the clock to finish the game.

DDO over KW 9-8

Both teams played VERY well. An amazing game to watch. Our girls can be very proud. KW Inferno comes home with SILVER and GOLD was closer than I can put into words (Scott Mueller).
