Day 1 of the tournament began with Glen looking more excited than the girls. If our “Kracktans” girls were too nervous to look excited, they soon changed that with a 25 to 6 victory over Hamilton. They followed that up with an 18 to 3 victory over Shadow during the late night game.
The victories set up a playoff-round matchup against CAMO on day 2. CAMO wasn’t dispatched so easily. In fact, a 9 to 9 tie in regulation time led the two teams to finish the match with a shoot-out, which resulted in a 13 to 12 victory for us. As close as it gets!
Of course the Mavericks awaited our “Kracktans” in the final on day 3 and the game didn’t disappoint. The battle began with as much grabbing and kicking as a nursery of raccoons around a compost bin. It was close until later in the game when our girls pulled away, finishing with a 13 to 7 victory.
The epic finish however, went to coach Owen who - ruining his cell phone in the process - was pushed into the pool in celebration. He was quickly followed by coach Glen, who spritely dove in without a ripple.
Congratulations U17 Girls! Next stop, the Nationals in Calgary at the end of May! Go “Kracktans!”
