What is Water Polo?
Water polo is a game of endurance, strategy, strength and ability. Players play in the deep water, treading or swimming the whole time without touching the bottom or sides of the pool. The object is like many team sports, get the ball in the net! Teams are made up of 6 field players and a goalie. The game is 4 quarters with teams switching ends at half time. Players use plays, checks, picks and passes to move the ball towards the net with a 30 second shot clock running, much like basketball. Like hockey, penalties or kick outs, are issued and players are given power plays to then attempt to score on a man-up opportunity. The team that score the most goals will win the game. Water Polo is physical and demanding but a whole lot of fun!
