Organization - 14U Boys Finish Provincials On A Winning Note!
Submitted By Ryan Schiller on Friday, April 19, 2019
This past weekend the 14U Boys competed in the Provincial Championship tournament held at the Pan Am Sports Centre in Scarborough. The boys were entering this tournament seeding 8th overall, and were tasked with some very difficult competition throughout the entire weekend. This did not deter our boys at all. In fact, it did quite the opposite! Our Kraken Boys played every game with the same determination and passion that we have seen from them all season long, resulting in some of the most exciting water polo that was played throughout the tournament.

The Kraken Boys played their first game against the number one team in Ontario, Scarborough Shadow. The boys battled hard against this team leaving the score within striking distance at the half. In the end however, Shadow would end up coming out with the win. Regardless of the final score in their first game, the boys worked extremely well together demonstrating tremendous energy and perseverance.

The next game our Kraken Boys played was against Mavericks 2. This was a fiercely fought defensive battle, leaving the score tied 1-1 until the very last quarter of the game, where the Mavericks would add two more goals to make the final score 3-1. Once again, regardless of the result, our boys would push forward with extraordinary willpower and determination battling hard in their next two games against Hamilton Water Polo. Our Kraken Boys showed a great deal of character in both these games but would come up short of a victory on both occasions.

The results of our games against Hamilton Water polo left our Kraken Boys battling for 7th place against Mavericks 3 in their final game of the tournament and the season. What a game it was!

519 Sports Online was there to capture the highlights of their final game.

The Mavericks were able to get the early 1-0 lead. However, this did not last for long as our Kraken Boys struck back with 3 unanswered goals to make the score 3-1. After some tremendous back and forth play by both teams, the score would remain tied 5-5 after regulation time.

What did this mean for our Kraken Boys? Well, it meant it was time for a shootout.

Once again, the Mavericks would strike with the first goal. After some excellent shots made by our Kraken Boys however, the pressure was on the Mavericks to keep the game alive. After the last shot was missed by the Mavericks, the boys would come out with a victory to end the game. What a way to end the season! This win left the boys with a 7th place finish overall in the 2018-2019 season.

As a coach of this team, I could not have asked for a better group of boys to coach. The KW Kraken 14U Boys team demonstrated excellent energy, and willingness to improve throughout the entirety of this season. The bonds and team comradery that was demonstrated by the boys through thick and thin was truly inspiring. I know for a fact that these boys have not only grown to be better players as a result of this season, but have also grown to be even better people than they already were.

On behalf of the coaching staff for the 14U Boys I want to say a final thank you to all the families and athletes who dedicated so much of their time and energy to this team all season long. It has truly been one of the most humbling experiences of my coaching career thus far, and I look forward to whatever comes next for our 14U Boys next season!
