Organization - Suspension of Kraken Water Polo due to CoVid-19
Submitted By Kyle Devitt on Sat 03 14, 20
The safety of our athletes and their families is of paramount concern. Our club is suspending all training and practices until at least June 30th to minimize any possible CoVid-19 exposure. (Updated from April 5 to June 30)

The message sent to all members on March 13 is repeated below.

Hello Kraken families,

As I'm sure you are aware today has been an eventful 48 hours in the province of Ontario. After much effort by coaches and managers to organize replacement pool times over the coming weeks, and as our teams prepare for upcoming tournaments and competitions, it appears that has been all for naught. In addition to the provincial government's directive to extend March Break till April 5th, Water Polo Canada and Ontario Water Polo have now also canceled all tournaments and competitions for the same time frame.

Our Board has discussed the issue. We have decided that the safety of our athletes and their families needs to be of paramount concern so our club will follow suit with the suspension of all training and practices until April 5th to minimize any possible CoVid-19 exposure.

I realize this is not an ideal situation for any of us, but at a time like this, sport needs to take a back seat to the greater good, safety, and wellness of all of our families.

This responsibility of allowing the social distancing or "flattening of the curve" to help buy time for the health care system to tackle this problem for the general populatuon is more than reasonable, even if the a large percentage of our club and community are low health risks

I read an interesting point of view that stuck with me today and want to pass it along. It said "I imagine all the closures and cancellations can give people a sense of ominousness. But it's really an amazing act of solidarity: We're sacrificing so we can give nurses, doctors, and hospitals a fighting chance. Start from there and hopefully, we can figure out the rest."

I look forward to seeing everyone healthy, happy, and ready to go after this extended break.

Please take care!
