INFERNO Brings the HEAT to the Mavericks Cup!
Wow.... where to start....?
We entered 5 teams into this tournament
consisting of 54 players, 6 coaches and played hard in 26 games!
In the U12 Division we entered 2 equal strength teams - KW Red and KW Black. KW Red finished in 5th place of 8 teams going 3(W)-2(L). KW Black finished in 3rd place having a strong round robin and also going 3(W)-2(L) over the weekend. The fans were treated to some fantastic games and it was exciting to see our newest Inferno players develop new skills! Way to Go! Congratulations to U12 KW Black on the Bronze!
Our U14 Girls competed in a very evenly matched division consisting of 4 teams (KW, Mavericks, DDO and Capital Wave). Despite some very close games our girls finished 4th in the round robin. In the cross-over we challenged the 1st place team, DDO, and came up slightly short with only a one goal differential! In the consolation final versus Capital Wave our Girls earned a solid victory finishing in the 3rd place position. This result was very encouraging given the youth of our team. Can't wait to see them continue to develop in the league this season! Congratulations to KW Girls on the Bronze!
We had 2 teams competing in the U14 Boys division;
Our KW Red team consisting of our less experienced players exceeded expectations with an outstanding performance and individual growth in each player. They battled hard in many closely fought games ending in 8th position out of nine teams. The future looks bright for this group of players as they continue to develop this season.
KW Black went 4(W)-1(L) in the double round robin losing only to the Mavericks in a closely matched game. They competed against DDO1 in the first knock-out round defeating them to advance to the championship to once again face the Mavericks. The final game offered an intense battle throughout all four quarters. The teams were tied going into the final minute of the game but unfortunately victory was not in the cards for our team despite their exceptional play, tenacity and unrelenting effort! Play was unbelievably tough and tensions were high but our boys made us proud with their composure and winning attitude.
Congratulations U14 KW Black on the Silver!
Of course we can't forget to send a huge thank you to our Head Coach - Glen Keelan who spent 32 hours at the pool this weekend coaching our players and mentoring our youth coaches. THANK YOU! Glen said many times throughout the weekend how grateful he was for the coaching support from Stevie, Ryan, Brodie, Claudio, Aleah and Marius! We are fortunate to have such a dedicated and competent coaching team!
Thank you and we are all looking forward to our Winter Classic tournament coming up in less than 2 weeks.... stay tuned for more info this week!
