Inferno brings the HEAT to U14/U12 Provincial Championships
Submitted By Calin Dragoiescu on Sun 04 19, 15
Are you kidding me???........4 consecutive U14 Co-Ed Provincial Championships for KW Inferno!  Incredible!!!

This year's KW Black team defended our last 3 Gold medal performances in flawless fashion resulting in our 4th Gold medal in as many years!!!  KW Black went undefeated through the entire event (6W-0L-0T).  They faced their fiercest competition in the Gold Medal Match versus Titans Gold.  It was an intense battle throughout the entire game resulting in an 8-5 victory for KW Black.  Every player on this team contributed to their success throughout the tournament.  This is an outstanding team of players that have worked hard all year long and are very deserving of this amazing accomplishment! Congratulations Black!!!!

This year our KW White team also put themselves in contention for a medal playing in the Bronze medal match versus Hamilton.  White was undefeated through their first 3 games which pole vaulted them into the Championship round.  Unfortunately they came up short but they certainly did the Inferno proud with their gutsy play throughout this game and the entire event (3W-3L-0T).  Way to go White!!!!

KW Red was the third team entered into the U14 division this year which is a true testament to the depth of our club (having 3 teams in the Provincial Championships).  KW Red was faced with a tough division but managed to finish in 3 place of 4 teams and competed against Shadow for the 5th place ranking!  This team continued to gain momentum through this tournament and defeated Shadow in their final game 8-7 to lock up 5th place among a field of 9 teams.  Well Done Red!!!!

These results speak huge volumes for our U14 program.  KW Black was made up of a strong group of players that have been developing together since U12.  Their continued dedication and commitment to the club was rewarded with this year's gold medal.  Both KW White and KW Red were comprised of younger players which will represent our club well in next year's U14 Championships.  Stay tuned because these boys and girls could quite possibly bring our club additional medals in the future.

This year we hosted a U12 Invitational as part the U14 Provincial Championships.  This was a great success and generated as much excitement as some of the U14 games.  We had two teams competing in this event.  Both our teams performed very well finishing 2nd and 3rd among the 5 team division.  KW Red went 2W-1L-0T and KW Black finished with a 1W-1L-1T record.  This young group of athletes have shown tremendous improvement since the beginning of the year and did extremely well considering the fact that our teams consisted of many U10 players.

None of this success could be possible without the leadership and dedication of our U14 Head Coach Glen Keelan.  His commitment to our players and his strategic mentoring has laid the foundation for success!  And FOUR consecutive GOLDS highlight his efforts!!!  Coach Glen would be the first to comment it was not his efforts alone as he has continued to develop a great support group of coaches that have contributed to the clubs success.  Many thanks to Glen, Luis, Marius, Stevie, Ryan, Aleah, Brodie, Claudio and Minos.

This year OWP decided not to acknowledge game stars and all-star teams including MVP and MVG awards.  However we want to bring attention to some individual accomplishments:

The following players finished in the top 10 goal scorers for the U14 event across all 9 teams:
Hunter Tyszka - 17
Radu Precup - 17
Adrian Dragoiescu - 12

Our U14 Goal Keepers on KW Black should be recognized as they achieved the lowest goals against statistic for the event with only 18 goals scored on them over 6 games:
Christian Palage
Aidan Greenhalgh

The following players finished in the top 10 goal scorers for the U12 event across all 5 teams:
Gracie Devitt - 11
Isaac Walker - 5
Ben McCuaig - 4
Hannah Baron - 4

This was an extremely well run event consisting of 30 games over 25 hours including formal medal game introductions and final medal presentations.  This year's formalities were performed by Angie Hill of KoolFM and Sarge of KFUN Radio along with comments from OWP Director, Angelos Kotzambasis and Tournament Director, Brock Greenhalgh.  A special THANK YOU to Brock as the tournament director who co-ordinated a large group of volunteers, invited and hosted our local celebrities and managed all activities on deck resulting in an exceptional event for KW Inferno and all the visiting teams.  Your tireless efforts are greatly appreciated!

We would like to thank Referee in Chief, Dorel Terpenka who co-ordinated the referees for the U14 Championships.  We would also like to thank Brodie Schiller, Kennedy Lopez-Nguyen, and Isidora Terpenka for officiating the U12 games.

A huge thank you to all the parents and volunteers who contributed this weekend with your hospitality room donations and time on deck.  We provided on-line updates once again this year thanks to the efforts of Andrea and Calin, team photos courtesy of Scott, and an exceptional hospitality suite co-ordinated by Sonja.  Our club is very fortunate to have new and experienced volunteers including parents and youth club members who continue to give back to our program to ensure it's success. THANK YOU!!!
