The KW Inferno sent two teams to this past
weekend’s Andrew Watson Memorial Water Polo tournament in Guelph, and both
teams came away with first place gold!
Members of the U16 and U18 girls squads came together for the tournament, and went undefeated through the round robin portion. The girls then squared off against the Ottawa Titans in the gold medal game Sunday afternoon. Goals came fast and furious in the first three quarters, allowing the Inferno to cruise to a 12-4 final!
Meanwhile, the U16 and U18 boys squads combined to put together a single high school team for the tournament. The boys faced off against a combined squad of high school players from Guelph and London in their first game on Saturday, and pulled off a
15-5 win. They were in tough in their second game of the day against Hamilton, eventually dropping a 13-8 decision.
On Sunday, the boys again faced the Guelph-London and Hamilton. The final match-up of the day was against Hamilton in the gold medal game. The boys pulled out to an early 5-1 lead, but had to fight hard to maintain the advantage as the final score read 10-8.
Congratulations to all athletes and coaches for their dedication and perseverance. Good luck as you gear up for more tournaments in the weeks to come.
