Congratulations on a Successful Winter Classic

THE WINTER CLASSIC WAS JUST THAT...A CLASSIC!

The KW Water Polo Club would like to congratulate everyone on an amazing weekend of Water Polo at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex.

Here are some statistics for you to consider: Almost 50 games of water polo played over two days by thirty different teams in five divisions. KW Inferno captured four 1st place finishes and one 2nd place finish! Amazing!

Every year, we have the chance to reflect on the successes of the tournament, and those successes were quite evident. A tournament of this magnitude requires committment from many volunteers, and we would like to recognize them all.

Referees: Thank you to all of the referees who gave of their time and talents this past weekend. Experienced referees worked with some of our younger officials to help develop their skills on the pool deck.

On Deck Volunteers: It is great to see a mixture of familiar faces as well as new volunteers willing to take on the challenges of managing score clocks and shot clocks. It is especially heartening to see many of our high school players coming back after games to help out and learn another aspect of the game.

Store Volunteers: Our shirt was a HUGE success this year, with t-shirt sales up almost 50 percent over last year. Visiting teams love having the chance to buy keepsakes to take home with them after the tournament. Thank you to Tanya and her crew for working overtime to meet the demands of the crowds!

Hospitality Room: A special thank you to Sonja who co-ordinated the room again this year. Coaches, officials and volunteers were all fed and watered throughout the weekend, and we received many compliments from them. Thank you to all families who came forward to donate items to the room.

Communications: Thanks to Calin and Andrea for keeping everything up to date on the website during the weekend. It was great to see parents accessing the website to see how the teams were doing.

Photography: A big thank you to Scott and Andrea for their expertise in photography! The photos look amazing as usual!

Coaches: It goes without saying that our coaches make the tournament such a huge success. They give of their time throughout the year to develop the skills in all of our players, and their dedication to the sport is truly evident. Our club is so fortunate to have an amazing set of coaches!

Finally, a sincere thanks to Kyle Devitt, who has taken over the reins as Tournament Coordinator for the KW Water Polo Club. His responsibilities began long before this past weekend, and his efforts showed, after all of the positive feedback from our own families and the families from other clubs.

Congratulations to all of our athletes after another successful Winter Classic!

We hope to see you all next Wednesday at our annual Holiday Social at the Victoria Park Pavillion!

Thanks again,

Brock Greenhalgh

President
