14U Girls Win Gold at Eastern National Championship
Submitted By Several People on Sun 05 19, 19
Dateline: May 10 to 12, 2019 - Markham, ON

For the first time since the National Championship League's inception in 2014, a KW Water Polo team has WON GOLD at the NCL Eastern National Championships. Congratulations to the 2018-2019 14U KW Kraken Girls and their coaches Glen Keelan and Cleo Ciciretto on this accomplishment.

This victory was the culmination of an entire season of hard work and determination. All those nights of endless lengths at the pool and practice shot after practice shot led to our Kraken girls losing only ONCE throughout the entire season.

After tearing through the preliminary competition this weekend at Eastern Nationals, the Kraken found itself on Sunday facing familiar foes from St. Lambert for GOLD. Our girls prevailed 10-6 to take it!!

It was wonderful to see (and hear - I'm talking to you Mary!!) how much support the 14UGs had in the stands in Markham. Kraken spirit was on full display with parents and players from our 16Us, 14U Boys, and 12Us there as spectators providing their support, cheers, encouragement, as the 14U Girls swam to victory! What a wonderful moment to witness.

Here is a letter one parent wrote after this special Mother's Day afternoon:

A letter to 14U girls, coaches, families, and supporters,

I'm not sure one can find the words to adequately celebrate the victory that was yours yesterday. No voice, no cheer, no drums, or horns could possibly speak loud enough or to this accomplishment, yet I will try because the victory deserves recognition and celebration!

So many things contribute to a winning team. Not all of them are easy to award or catch on the highlight reel. They happen quietly throughout the season stitching the fabric of the team closer together, making it stronger while you practice, play, and at times while you falter and struggle. Each of you waiting and hoping for that moment to shine and feel brightness of your individual contribution for all to see and to acknowledge, leads to the success you are all striving for.

It is the collective strength of all those uncaptured moments and struggles, silent words of support and belief in one another when you do not always see those things in yourselves. The momentum, spirit, and joy that you generate working towards a common purpose with your team and coaches led you to this win.

Congratulations to all the 14U Kraken players, coaches, families, and supporters on the tremendous season!

With awe,celebration and support,
A 14UG parent

When you see these athletes and coaches at the pool, be sure to congratulate them on this amazing accomplishment.
