Another weekend saw another few days spent at the good old Etobicoke Olympium Recreation Centre, a place most likely familiar to any member of the Kraken Waterpolo club.
Good memories were once again made, this time with the help of 2 players from the CAMO Waterpolo Club of Montreal. They were Adélaïde Bilodeau and Corinne-Réya Graham-Jean-Louis. The team bonded such that when they said goodbye at the end of the weekend, they hugged each other and wished each other well. An amazing demonstration of what team sports can be and an example that there is something other than a world of viruses and war. Merci beaucoup. A bientot!
So what happened with the waterpolo? Well, let me tell you! It was exciting! The only team the Kraken lost to was the combined Mavericks/Hamilton/Forest City. They played them twice, once on Friday losing 7 - 11, and once in the final gold-medal game on Sunday, losing 2 - 8. The other 4 teams at the tournament could not beat our 15U girls, despite their best efforts. On Saturday, we played Capital Wave winning by a score of 13 - 5, Shadow winning by a score of 14 - 10, and Titans winning by a score of 11 - 5. The victories set the stage for the 2nd versus 3rd playoff against Shadow on Sunday morning. A closely contested affair that was tied 7 - 7 going into the last minute of the 4th quarter. We scored 2 goals before the end of the game to book our trip to the final. Coach Glen, in a moment of clarity, commented that this was one of the most exciting games he ever coached. Then he mumbled something about his precious Maple Leafs in the playoffs and his mood quickly soured. Oh well…can’t have it all!
Congratulations on your silver medals 15U girls! Go Kraken!
